Prey

Every creature has its prey
And I’ll have my day
I’ve got no teeth for killing
My body carries no poison
I’ve got soft hands for building
A navigator of choices
But bear no illusions
Every creature has its prey
I’m no more than a vine chasing sunlight
But no less of an artist
Diving like a hunter in mid-flight
Should we be heavenly parted
As soon as you came into sight I knew
Every creature has its prey
Watch and wait, while you decide
To fight or to run
Nothing will escape my eyes
Nothing’s new under the sun
The heart drifts like a bottle in the sea
Waves of tender moments, words so sweet
No disguise, no ulterior evil, simply,
Every creature has its prey
You graze in no field but the hearts of others
Take what you will from death and lovers
But I’m downwind of something filling
And there’s one thing I can say

Shinrin nyūyoku-sha
That’s what they’ll call me
When I am gone
And I will be gone
Just like our time together is done
For now
Until the next time around
Time has a warm touch
But soon it must let go
And I feel the cold
In the places between
The places between my memories and me
But soon
I’ll feel that warm touch again
Pain is a prison
But don’t fear for too long
Hands down at your side
To calm you inside
To soften the heart and sharpen the mind
This too
Can be a good opportunity
This was all over
The moment it started
And we live inside
A narrow divide
Between what’s gone dark and what comes to light
Impermanence
Sure can be a lonely car ride
So look to either side
See what you’re passing by
I wanted to stay for a little while longer
I wanted to climb up on old shoulders
I wanted to hide in a different time
To be filled up with younger voices
I wanted to stay for a little while longer
In that time, in that place
Settle down, and the weight will find you
It’s at your back, putting all this behind you
No one knows how to
Stop once they’re going
But I want to slow down
To sink into the ground
Be free of the sunlight and remember the sounds

Heat Death/Hate

I hate your lack of motivation
I hate how simple you are
I hate how slow you come around
To what I've told you before
You never listen to me
You don't try to understand
You could do better
You need to pay attention
You could go on forever
Combusting on disgusting potential
You with your rare gifts
You need to figure out what they are
I hate you because I love you
I hate you because you're mine
I hate you because I measure
Myself against you in time
I hate you because I understand
I understand you the best
It matters because you are how
I understand myself
